Friends of Delia

A one-off live imagining of tracks from Delia Recording's first album – "The Horizon Is On The Horizon".

With a career rooted in recording and soundtrack composition, Tom Hill initially approached performance as a way of reimagining recorded material for the stage. However, in this new body of work, the focus has shifted – placing performance itself at the centre of the creative process.

Working with a minimal yet dynamic setup that includes live phasing loops, field recordings, and effects pedals, Hill has crafted a series of compositions conceived explicitly for live presentation. These pieces often employ asynchronous layers of strings, clarinet, and electronic textures, deliberately embracing unpredictability and chance.

By relinquishing strict control over structure and timing, each performance becomes a singular event, unfolding in real time, shaped as much by the system’s instability as by the performer’s intent.

An experiment to see what can be done with profligate modern technology applied to the guitar, framed by a group of seasoned musicians. Psychedelic echoes abound in surround sound… tuneful and at times violent, instrumental music for the adventurous listener. Hexaphonia is the brainchild of Martin 'Coopersonic' Cooper, renowned craftsman of artisan guitar pedals and authority on ancient tube technology.

Following the critically acclaimed releases “This Short Sweet Life” (2017) and “Leisure & Technology” (2020), Torn Sail's third album “Steady Weather” presents a more refined and layered sound, yet still retains the emotive depth and exploratory spirit that has always defined Torn Sail’s work.

The band’s ability to draw on diverse musical influences, from the ambient and expansive soundscapes of Krautrock, to the subtle, melodic complexity of Dire Straits, makes this album both timeless and contemporary. “Steady Weather” is a work of meticulous craftsmanship, a testament to Costin’s songwriting and the album’s forensically detailed production, led by Shrinkwrap’s Matt Horobin.

Torn Sail – in stripped-back configuration as Huw Costin (guitar & vocals) John Thompson (bass), and Henry Claude (electric guitar) – will play a short set introducing listeners to the new record.
